yep. most of the straight romance i cared about was written by women in various fiction genres like ya and romance novels. most men are terrible at writing female characters much less having them form meaningful connections with other characters. most popular media is produced and created by sexist and homophobic men who would have us believe that men are more important, more complex and that whatever they’re feeling is crucial. and that the most meaningful, profound relationships are the platonic bonds between men.

it is really any wonder why women produce and consume so much slash fanfiction? and a lot of it is preferable to the actual canon for me.

exactly! when the relationships between dudes are depicted as 1000x more interesting and compelling and emotional than the relationships between dudes and their ~love interests, of course people are going to express more interest in the dudes’ relationship, and if readers have to pick one to hold up as a romantic ideal of course it’ll be the one where the characters involved actually respect and care for each other
